Shakarsev Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The Shakarsev Fm was distinguished by V. I. Popov (1933) under the name "gypsum-bearing," the geographical name for it was proposed by G. A. Dutkevich and M. A. Kalmikova (1937).

Lithology and Thickness
It is composed of gray and green, less frequently brownish, clays and sandstones, containing layers of dark gray limestones and light gray gypsums, as well as lenses of rock salt. Thickness is 400 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It lies with a clear angular unconformity on the red-colored terrigenous rocks of the Iollihar Fm, attributed to the Murghab horizon, as well as on the eroded surface of small intrusives of diorites and gabbro-diorites of the late Permian Ravnousky complex, piercing the Iollihar Fm. At the base of the Shakarsev Fm, there are angular fragments of diorites, locally diorite gravel (Vlasov, 1961).
Upper contact
It is apparently overlain in conformity by the Chapsay Fm.
Regional extent
They are widespread in the Darvaz region within the Southwestern Darvaz.

Fossils
Organic remains in the Shakarsev Fm have not been found, except for collected (?) remains of Permian brachiopods. It is conditionally attributed to the Pamir horizon based on its position in the section.
